Who Was Better - Bonne or Simpson?

In a new series at Everything Orient, we take a look at a player from the past and compare them to a player from the current Leyton Orient side. In this edition, it's Bonne vs Simpson.

There is no doubt in anybody's minds that both of these strikers are prolific goal scorers with defences certainly trembling at the sight of the pair. However, who was more consistent in front on goal?

Since his arrival in E10, Bonne has found the back of the net on 31 occasions. In addition to this, the Zimbabwean forward scores, on average, every 165 minutes.

On the other hand, the former Arsenal striker, Jay Simpson, scored 33 goals for Leyton Orient during his time with the club but managed this with 30 more appearances than Macauley.

However, there are some variables that should be taken into account.

Firstly, during his time with Orient, Simpson was between the ages of 25 and 28 when he was firing in the goals for the O's - arguably a striker's prime years. On the other hand, Bonne is approaching his 23rd birthday and has already found his goal scoring touch - therefore, who knows what level of the game Macauley could reach.

Something that should also be considered is the standard of football that these two play at. Whilst at Orient, Simpson featured in League One and is currently playing his football in the MLS with Atlanta United - not to mention his youth career at Arsenal.

Moreover, although he was young, Bonne struggled to make a name for himself at Colchester United in League One and Two and it was at the O's where the striker came into his own.
