Player Profile
Gavin Massey has played for teams in many divisions of English football, from the Bostik League up to the Championship, and during this time he played one season at Orient, seeing them get relegated to the National League.
Where Have They Been?
Gavin’s career started in his hometown of Watford where he joined the academy at 9 years old. In his time as a professional player for Watford he only managed 7 appearances, but was sent out on loans to Wealdstone, Yeovil Town and Colchester United.
After two successful loan spells at Colchester United, he eventually signed a 3-year contract in 2012 with ‘The U’s’. In this time he made 158 appearances, scoring 20 goals and winning Colchester’s Player of the Year award in 2015.
At of the start of the 2016/17 season, Gavin signed a three-year deal with the O’s for an undisclosed fee, and scored on his debut in a 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town in August.
Massey went on to make 36 appearances for the Orient in League Two, scoring 8 goals however it was not enough to prevent Orient from getting relegated to The National League.
Where Are They Now?
Following the relegation, Massey left Orient to sign for League One club Wigan on a two-year contract. In his first season, he managed to score three goals in 10 appearances, as he saw his team come top of the table. This season he has made four appearances, scoring and assisting once so far in the Championship.
