Leyton Orient travel to Home Park as we divert attention from the league to the magic of the cup for the first round Carabao Cup tie which as per recent tradition when playing Plymouth Argyle, is a Tuesday night kick off at 19:45.
Date: 13/08/2018
Time: 19:45
Venue: Home Park
Orient return to League Cup action for the first time since 2016 where Fulham ran out 3-2 winners in a first round tie at Brisbane Road.
As many will have predicted, the Pilgrims have started the season well, winning their opening games 3-0 and 1-0 respectively ensuring they’ve climbed top of the League Two table.
In comparison, Orient’s humbling 3-0 defeat at the hands of Macclesfield on Saturday has left them them in worse stead heading into the cup tie. However, enough promise was shown in the victory over Cheltenham to provide level of promise both defensively and in terms of creating chances.
The last time the O’s progressed any further than the first round in the competition was in 2014, reaching the third round after the campaign started with a penalty shootout victory following a 3-3 draw at Home Park with Argyle in the first round.
In the history of the fixture, the east Londoners have won 19 of the 56 meetings, losing 27 and points being shared on ten occasions. Despite marginal dominance from the side from Devon, the most recent match saw Orient claim an impressive 3-2 victory in stoppage time on the south-west coast during the 2016/17 season.
