FA Cup Preview: Orient v Maidstone

Date: 20/10/2018

Kick Off: 15:00

Venue: Gallagher Stadium

This Saturday, Orient take on Maidstone in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup. This will be the O’s first cup tie of the season, with a place in the First Round proper at stake.

The O’s have had a good run of form against Stones, winning all three of the encounters between the two sides since the start of last season. Maidstone will have a point to prove after Orient inflicted a 2-1 defeat on them in from of their fans back in August.

Orient will be looking to return to winning ways after being held to a goalless draw by Hartlepool last weekend. Despite being down to ten men, Orient fought hard and looked the side most likely to get the win.

Maidstone have been winless in their last three, and will want to kick start their season with a strong performance in the FA Cup. The boys from Kent have had an indifferent season so far.

They are just above the relegation zone and joint lowest scorers in the National League with just 11 goals. Ex-O Blair Turgott has scored eight of them.

At this stage of the competition last season, O’s were drawn against Dagenham away, and after a 0-0 draw at Victoria Road, Mccauley Bonne’s goal at Brisbane Road saw Orient into the First Round Proper.

Meanwhile, Maidstone hosted seventh tier Enfield Town, who took Stones to a replay that they won 3-1 in extra time.

Team News

Joe Widdowson will serve the first of a three game suspension after his sending off against Hartlepool last weekend. It is likely that Sam Ling will take his place in the side. Myles Judd could switch over to left back while Ling plays on his preferred right-hand side.

Justin Edinburgh may ring in the changes and rest a few players, giving opportunities to those who have had less game time.

Maidstone have no current suspensions outstanding. New signing Jack Powell will be fired up for his home debut. Turgott will also be one to watch - he has scored three in Stones’ last five games
