A Fan's Perspective: Grimsby Town vs Leyton Orient

A Game to Remember: James Alabi

It would be rude not to give this man the award, after over a year since his last competitive goal away at Maidenhead, the thunderous striker finally converted.

The way he did so was fantastic, muscled off the Grimsby player and destroyed their whole backline with strength and bolky pace to get into one of them 'he’s going to do it' positions where he slotted it past Grimsby’s number one, then running off towards a jubilant Orient crowd. Despite it being the third goal of the afternoon, it was one of the greatest limbs I’ve ever seen.

Not even just that goal he was so composed and calm, he was so elegant and possessed such quality on and off the ball, moved into great positions and was crucial in the 4th goal. Carl Fletcher’s going to think he’s the best thing since sliced bread!

Worthy Mention: Dean Brill

A fantastic showing by Brill in between the sticks, pulling off a catalogue of great saves to deny Grimsby a change back into the game. Despite his inconsistency and the fact I’d personally prefer Sarge, when he was a good showing  you can’t deny credit where it’s due.

Opinion

After the appointment of Carl Fletcher in midweek this meant Saturday’s encounter away at Grimsby would be Ross’ last game, in which so he went out on the greatest high he could imagine with his Orient side netting four goals.

It was great to see the centre backs back at their forward duties, Coulson (a hero last season by the art of getting forward) and Happe netting to go two up before half time in a very solid first 45 minutes.

Josh Wright rounded off the showing with a penalty late in the game, a game overshadowed by the rare sighting of a James Alabi goal. Louis Dennis didn’t have the best of times infront of goal after squandering a chance from close range, however, in my opinion, Matt Harrold has really come on in recent times and has demonstrated his qualities in the Football League.

The best possible swan song for Ross’ as he bows back to his former role, Carl takes charge of the team who head to the impressive Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night for his first game.
