Award winning actor, Idris Elba, has gone solo and created the new smash hit comedy 'In The Long Run', where his brother, Valentine, attends open trials at Leyton Orient...but would he get in?
'In The Long Run' is a very eye opening series which accurately portrays the life of an immigrant within the UK during the 1980's. Furthermore, the series has been based upon Idris Elba's childhood in a little estate in Leyton, highlighting the highs and lows of his life at the time.
Within Idris Elba's new series (we suggest you give it a watch), his brother Valentine attends an open trial at Leyton Orient to help kickstart his footballing career. Valentine played for his native nation of Sierra Leone and produced some silky skills at the open trial but was considered to old to feature for the O's.
Therefore, we're taking a look at the Leyton Orient side of 1985 and seeing whether Valentine could make the cut. Yes, we are aware he isn't a real person but it's the end of the season and we're running out of article ideas so let's roll with it.
Unfortunately for Orient (much like recent times), relegation beckoned for the O's. Within the 1984/85 season, Orient finished 22nd out of a possible 24 and was subsequently relegated from the division.
Except from Cambridge City, who finished rock bottom with 21 points, it appeared to be an exciting relegation battle at the time. Preston North End, Leyton Orient and Burnley all finished on exactly 46 points but were unfortunately relegated. However, Swansea City escaped the drop by a single point, guareenting safety with 47 points.
The O's played AFC Bournemouth on the last day of the season, needing a win to remain in the division. However, they could only manage a 0-0 draw. In addition to this, Orient went five games without a win towards the tail end of the season which appeared to be their down fall.
So, who knows? Maybe Valentine could have done a job for the O's.
