In our new series at Everything Orient, we take a look at ex-Orient players and see where their careers have taken them since their departure from Brisbane Road.
Mark Lazarus is considered to be a genuine great at Leyton Orient Football Club, appearing on over 100 occasions for the east London side over two stints with the club. Born in Stepney, Lazarus graduated from the Barking youth team before moving to Leyton Orient in 1958 as an exciting young winger.
The young Englishman made 20 appearances for the O's before moving onto the west side of London with Queens Parks Rangers. Alec Stock, who was Leyton Orient manager at the time, was offered the QPR job and decided to take his young starlet along with him.
Lazarus experienced a great amount of success with Queens Park Rangers, making over 100 appearances for the Hoops. Furthermore, Mark went onto feature for Brentford and Crystal Palace before a return to Leyton Orient.
1962 saw the return of Mark Lazarus as the then 31-year-old aimed to see out the rest of his prime years at the O's. During a four year stay at Brisbane Road, the footballer made 82 appearances and scored 14 goals during this time.
Regarding his life after football, Lazarus became a 'minder' for snooker players , helping guide the participants to the venue and providing protection for these players. In addition to this, Lazarus minded Steve Davis during his loss to Dennis Taylor in the 1985 World Snooker Championship Final. Furthermore, the ex-Leyton Orient footballer now owns a haulage firm which is based in Romford, Essex.
Interestingly, the Leyton Orient gene continued in the family - as Lazarus's nephew, Bobby Fisher, went onto feature for the O's on over 300 occasions between 1973 and 1982.
