Where Are They Now: Elliot Omozusi

In our new series at Everything Orient, we take a look at ex-Orient players and see where their careers have taken them since their departure from Brisbane Road.

Omozusi was an inverted full-back who spent the majority of his career at the O's and also showed plenty of footballers across the country how to bounce back from their wrongdoings.

Elliot, who was born in Hackney, began his career in west London with Fulham, making his debut for the club against Wycombe Wanderers as an 18-year-old. His only other notable performance for the Cottagers was against Reading in 2007 where he provided an assist but was later sent off.

The full-back spent the majority of his Fulham career out on loan with Norwich City and Charlton Athletic, before being released in 2010. However, a successful trial period with the O's brought Omozusi to Brisbane Road on a three-year deal.

Omozusi had an a magnificent season during the 2010/11 campaign where he went on to make 50 appearances for the east London side. But sadly for Orient, Omuzusi experienced a moment which nearly ended his football career for good. On November 17th 2011, Omozusi was convicted for intimidating a witness in a murder trial and was sentenced to two and a half years in prison.

Despite this, Omozusi re-signed for the O's in early 2013 following his release and went onto make 70 more appearances for the mighty O's. Furthermore, he made this statement on the official club website following his return to Orient.

"I'm grateful to Leyton Orient for this opportunity given to me. I want to make the most of this second chance and I'm looking forward to helping the team over the rest of the season."

Throughout his time with the O's, he was always recognised for his work rate and passion shown for the team, something that we could certainly do with now.

In addition to this, Omozusi was nominated in 2014 for the PFA Player in the Community award following his work with the Leyton Orient trust following his release from prison, demonstrating how he truly turned his life around.

However, the former Orient man departed the club in June 2015 for Cambridge United. Rarely featuring, he later moved onto Whitehawk and now Chelmsford City, a semi-professional side back in Essex.
